This is a Passenger Liner that measures 16″ x 4″. This ship was produced during the war years, first being introduced in 1942. The ship was sold alone as model # 216 or as part of the Convoy Fleet set, model #652, that was also introduced in 1942. It is named the “Southern Star” with a U.S. Mail designation. The plane that launches from the ship in also labeled U.S. Mail. The planes labeled U.S. Mail are one of the hardest parts to find. As a side note there are planes that were painted yellow and labeled U.S. Navy that are even harder to find. This ship is a smaller version of the mechanical 24 inch Ocean Liner “America” that was produced during the same time period . I have another ship that is smaller yet, at 12 inches, that has the same styling as the “America” and the “Southern Star”. This smaller one is lacking mechanics or a launching plane and is unnamed. The two larger ships have a sea green water line and the smallest has a blue water line.
